Y2K ROLLS SMOOTHLY The
much-talked about Y2K came...and went without any problems reported.
But REACT was ready. Level 2 was called, and 17 members were on
standby throughout New Years Eve. REACT 3, and REACT 5 responded to
Flagler Beach to help with the traffic associated with Flagler
Beach's fireworks display. But even that went smoothly. All
operations returned to normal by 0100hrs, 01/01 2000.
NEW REGS ALLOW EASIER HAM TESTING, AND
LICENSING. Effective the April, the FCC has ordered a
restructuring of the amateur radio licensing system. 5 license
classes have now been broken down into 3 classes, Technician,
General, and Extra. The Morse Code requirement for General is now 5
words per minute. There is no requirement for Tech. Class. The test
is now 50 questions, instead of 55. This is the time to start
studying for your ham ticket. It is now easier than ever.
147.300 REPEATER ON THE AIR The EOC 2 meter repeater on
147.300 is back on the air, with more improvements to come. This
repeater also features an auto-patch, only accessible by ham radio
operators. The auto-patch allows the user to connect their radio to
the phone system. From their radio, a ham can dial up 911, FCSO, the
Weather Service, and other agencies. |
