REACT is at Level 1 for Wildfire Activation *** Burn Ban Issued At 11:00am Monday, May 12, 2008, Flagler County Commission Chairman James O'Connell executed a "Proclamation Declaring A State of Local Emergency For Flagler County" which essentially is an open burning ban. This protective action was initiated because of the escalating drought index (currently 494) and the lack of rainfall over the past 5 weeks. Fires continue in St. Johns County, Volusia County, and Brevard County. Flagler County is providing strike team assistance to aid our neighbors to the north and south. FireFlight has initiated reconnaissance missions and increased ground response is occurring with every brush fire call in Flagler County. Currently, there are no active wildfires in Flagler County. This type of action is not unusual for Flagler County during the month of May. No significant rainfall is expected over the next week or so, therefore it is likely the burn ban will be extended next Monday. This burn ban does not prohibit the use of outdoor grills, but does prohibit camp fires, trash burning, etc. For further information click here 5/13/08 Drought Index: 503 Severe Storm Season Fire Season Approaches Important links below Hurricane Season Begins June 1 Hurricane
